A New Haggadah for Passover
Original mixed media paintings and text by Annette Turow

Annette Turow has written a new Haggadah based on a series of paintings she created in 2003 retelling the story of Passover. This very beautiful book is available for purchase on line and at the Spertus Museum. The following pages are selections from the HAGGADAH.

The Haggadah is a guidebook for the celebration Pesach. It has directions on how to conduct the Seder, explanations of the Pesach symbols, selections form Psalms (112-118), interesting stories, children's folk songs, riddles and prayers. Most important of all, it tells the story of why we celebrate Passover.

The Haggadah has a long history. It is more than 2.000 years old. Even before it was written down, the leader of the family would tell the story of Pesach at the Seder table. The leader was following the commandment in the Bible, "You shall tell you child on that day, saying: "It is because of that which the Lord did for me when I came forth out of Egypt.'" The very term Haggadah comes from the Hebrew word hagged which means "to tell."
