Turow continues her exploration of Biblical figures from the
Old Testament in this moving series of small mixed media paintings. "Matriarchs followed the Circa 1900 series which originally emanated from a string of amber beads owned by my great grandmother, Hannah. Ideas and sensations about the matriarchal figures in the Bible and what they wore began to develop as a natural extension of the fabrics I had imagined for Hannah. I have attempted to express these ideas through the forms and colors of this series." The paintings are mixed media on canvas and on masonite. The collages are created from painted papers, color xerox copies of my own papers, acrylic gels and oil sticks. |
