Acts of Love and Kindness comes from a prayer that lists "obligations
without measure."
After much consideration, I selected a few obligations from the
list that spoke to me about spiritual generosity. These are the
things we do because we love each other and our actions are supportive
of the needs of our friends and families.

This work spans two years of
paintings inspired by memories of being brought up in a conservative
Jewish home. I started with a long series of paintings I incorporated
into a Hagadah for my family and then expanded the series with
interpretations of two prayers that evoke strong spiritual and
emotional feelings. I have already mentioned the first prayer,
The second prayer is the Kaddish, used when there is a death
in the family. Ultimately, all these pieces relate to moments
I have experienced during the study or chanting of these prayers.
The work is not meant to be a translation of words, but an interpretation
of the experiences attached to the meaning of the prayers.
